When foodies visit the Bay Area, they often assume that they should go to San Francisco for fine food or visit Berkeley just for hipster joints. But when I returned to Berkeley, California, this year, the thriving food scene in the area was the one I was most excited to explore. Every part of Berkeley reminded me of my hometown of San Diego, where I used to go on food tours myself. Since I've been in Berkeley for the last few years, I've been amazed by the variety of food on offer.

We had a picnic on the campus of Berkeley on the lawn of the Glade Memorial and there was so much to do and eat that it became what I like to call the Berkeley Food Tour. To make it a real hipster Berkeley experience, we took pizza and ate it in the park. We grabbed baguettes and batard rounds, picked up a few different cheeses for the cheese menu, and picnicked on the campus memorial lawn.

This is a good place to grab an afternoon snack and explore Berkeley And you can get a quick lunch in the café. You have two locations in Berkeley, but if you feel like something sweet and refreshing, make a pit stop here. We stopped at the second location the Coffee Company, founded in 1951, opened, a mobile kiosk that parked next to the BART station downtown Berkeley to get a refreshing Americano and a healthy conscience.

If you're looking for something sweet, you can't beat Yogurt Park, but if you just like your yogurt and garnish it in a simple way, Berkeley University students can agree on one thing: If that's not enough to move, Chez Panisse has even compared it to France, which is on this corner of Berkeley. There are plenty of offers, and while it may have been a famous professor from Berkeley who first brought La Note to the doors (students have spotted Robert Reich grabbing a bite in the country - chic atmosphere), it's anything but that keeps you coming back. Picked levains and can not miss the San Francisco sourdough, which is prepared with naturally occurring wild yeast appetizers.

And, of course, there's a restaurant in Berkeley dedicated to deep-fried, fair-food products from the county, and in the most artisanal way possible. The bakery offers its sale on the first Saturday of the month from 12: 00 to 17: 00 and on Sundays from 10: 00 to 17: 00. M. to 4 p., and from 9 a. to 18 p., and even on weekends from 11 a, to 19 p.

And, of course, there's a restaurant in Berkeley dedicated to deep-fried, fair-trade, county food, and it's done in the most artisanal way. Butcher and Son is a popular meat-based restaurant in downtown Berkeley. Vegetarian options are available, including a hearty fried chickpea flour cake served with pesto made from fava leaves. And the menu is gluten-free and allergic - listed with allergens, so food-sensitive eaters can avoid edible hazards and still be guaranteed a delicious experience. This restaurant combines the grill with traditional Asian recipes that produce familiar dishes seasoned with just enough surprise to spice them up.

Philz coffee shops may be springing up all over the Bay Area, but the location on Shattuck Avenue is good for food - and for days at a time. If you are heading to Boba Bao in the morning for a cup of coffee and a glass of wine, you should not be disappointed.

It's a bit strange that Zachary's Chicago Pizza first opened in the Berkeley area, unlike Chicago, but they offer such a fantastic frozen pizza. Belli Osteria certainly offers some of the best Italian dishes in the area, and we will miss this because it opened a few years ago, as well as the fact that it offers such wonderful frozen pizzas.

Co-founder Eric Thai told the Daily Californian in 2014 that the Berkeley restaurant had a particularly strong following when they worked out of a food truck. Downtown Bakery and Creamery in Healdsburg, California, was opened in 1987 by former Chez Panisse co-founders John Remolif and his girlfriend Kathleen Stewart (also of CheZ Panissis) and later became one of the most successful food trucks in the Bay Area. Today, they own the Salumi company Fra Mani, and its founders Jerry and Sam Pfeiffer, as well as their chef, are all alumni of Che Z panisse.
